Amkhosi started the week with a 1-0 loss to TS Galaxy which saw ugly scenes after the game when some fans turned on head coach Molefi Ntseki, pelting him with missiles and having members of the police escort him off the pitch.
The unsavoury incidents seemed to have been forgotten though as a brace from Pule Mmodi and a late header by Edson Castillo gave the Soweto giants a comfortable win.
Chiefs needed a strong start and they got it when Mmodi opened the scoring in the third minute after Ashley Du Preez found space on the left and whipped in a dangerous cross into the box.
Amakhosi had to wait until the hour mark to double their advantage and the goal was worth the wait following a well-worked team move.
Du Preez was again found in space down the left-hand side before laying the ball off to Tebogo Potsane, who ran into the box before cleverly back-heeling into the path of an on-rushing Mmodi who beat Amazulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa with a first-time effort.
Usuthu showed more attacking verve after going 2-0 behind but the cutting edge upfront that has so far been lacking this season was once again on show.
Chiefs wrapped up maximum points three minutes from full-time when Castillo headed in from a corner for the South American's first goal for the club.
It is Amakhosi's first victory in this season's league campaign after four matches and will no doubt be a relief to Ntseki and his coaching staff.
Usuthu, meanwhile, have yet to register a goal in the same amount of matches having previously played to three goalless stalemates.
