Rabale deservedly took home this award after scoring about 23 goals this season, coming from a deep-lying midfield position. With her cultured left football, Rabale’s goals and assists also saw her helping Sundowns easily retain their league title.
"My performance from the start was quiet good and I was consistent until the end of the season. I'm a midfielder yet I was able to score 23 goals, even though we have strikers in our team.
It means a lot, I really did well. Maybe I'm a striker and I don't know since I scored a lot of goals, more than our strikers in the team. While my work is to assist and maybe get some goals but not as many as I scored," she said.
After leading the Brazilians to their third successive national league title and second trophy under the current sponsors, head coach Jerry Tshabalala deservedly walked away with the coach of the season award.
He beat the University of Western Cape’s mentor Thinasonke Mbuli and the head coach of Tshwane University Lucky Sibiya to this award and interestingly, he says these are the two teams that made things difficult for them this season.
"Not an easy season, a very challenging season for us. We had 16 teams, the reason behind me congratulating the other coaches is because if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be where we are. They pushed us to the limit.
They've challenged us in terms of the tactics that we apply in the game, you know. As well as the players, to keep the players grounded because if it was going to be similar to the first season, we would think that we have 'arrived'.
I like the fact that TUT and UWC came to the party to show that we've got talent in South Africa. When I look back at this season, I realise that it was one of the difficult seasons we have ever played," Tshabalala concluded.
