Carlo Ancelotti's team is currently nine points behind the Catalan giants in the table, and a win would allow them to remain in contention.
Real Madrid's star striker, Karim Benzema, is expected to play a pivotal role in the game. The Frenchman scored the winning goal against Liverpool in the Champions League midweek, which was his first goal in five matches.
Benzema suffered a blow to his right shin during the match but confirmed he would be fine when he spoke to the media after the game.
"It was a strong blow to the tibia. Just a knock. I will be there, I will be there," Benzema said.
However, Benzema missed full training on Friday, concentrating instead on individual gym work. Despite this, Real Madrid remained confident that he would be available for the full 90 minutes of the El Clasico match against Barcelona on Sunday, according to Sport.
Benzema has scored eight goals in El Clasico matches for Real Madrid and will aim to add to that total on Sunday. He will be looking to help his team stay in the title race, and a victory against their fierce rivals would provide a significant boost to their chances.
