The Brazilians announced the Bafana Bafana skipper had committed his future to the club until June 2028 on the back of his heroics at the AFCON at the start of the year.
Williams, who was voted Goalkeeper of the Tournament after helping the national team win the bronze medal in Cote d'Ivoire, believes that would have been the ideal time to move.
"I think if that was to materialise, it should have happened after AFCON – I think that was the perfect moment, and nothing concrete came my way or anything that my management or club brought up," said Williams.
"So, why not stay at Mamelodi Sundowns, where we're looking to be part of great things – the [FIFA] Club World Cup, they're giving me that platform."
The 32-year-old said he was relishing more success with Sundowns, but adds that should an offer that suits all parties involved emerge then it would be considered.
"I'm happy at the club, I've signed a new deal, long may this continue – the achievements, the success, and even the heartbreak because that builds and fuels us to go even harder in the next season," he added.
"So I'm looking forward to [the extended chapter], I'm happy at Sundowns, and I'm looking forward to the Club World Cup.
"But if something comes, and the club is happy [to let me go] then so be it."
