With the rumours not going away and probably a distraction for the 28-year-old, Mokwena has told SABC Sport he sat down with Mudau.
“To be honest, Khuliso hasn’t heard anything…but you can imagine how excited he is to have his name linked with top clubs abroad. However, he remains a Sundowns player and he is happy here,” the coach explained.
English Premier League outfit Burnley, who signed Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster for a whopping record R131-million in January, were named as one of the first clubs sniffing around the reigning DStv Premiership Defender of the Season.
However, any genuine offer would have to be significant given Mudau signed a new contract ending June 2027 at Sundowns recently.
“Mazola, I can tell you he is focused on football and is invested in the team despite the rumours that of course excite him. And he knows he has my support even though he is important to the team and is a quality human being within the group. If this is to fulfil his lifelong dream – and it suits Sundowns too – I’ve made him that promise, as long as it is in the best interest of all three parties,” added Mokwena.
The coach isn’t surprised the former Black Leopards right back is on the radar of European clubs, especially with the Africa Cup of Nations looming.
“His level is extremely high. Strangely enough, a scout/performance analysts in one of the big teams in Europe said Khuliso is our best player. We want to help him get there, but for now the focus is on helping Sundowns win more games and more trophies,” Mokwena concluded.
