Following the conclusion of its ordinary congress at Emperor's Palace on Sunday afternoon, Motlanthe revealed that members had mandated his office to look for alternative revenue streams.
"The CFO [Chief Financial Officer] has presented our financials for the year 2022, and we are reporting a R2.9 million loss. As a norm, our finances will be publicised," he said.
"So, if people have questions [around] those finances, they can then feel free to contact us."
On the bright side, Motlanthe said Sondlo Charted Accountants delivered a clean report on Safa’s finances.
"Also, what was key was that Sondlo Accountants, who are the ones dealing with our books, came and took the stage to say to members, they found nothing wrong," he added.
"And, as a result, they said the books of SAFA are what they call qualified. So, we don't have any report which has brought problems."
It’s now expected that the CEO, along with CFO Gronie Hluyo, must bring in money in this hostile economy, while adding that Safa will soon make sponsorship announcements.
"I know that we will be announcing two key sponsors – one for Bafana Bafana and one for the regional leagues, but the mandate given here is to generate more income, without looking only at sponsorships. So, there are creative ways we are looking at [doing so]," said Motlanthe.
"The chairperson of the sports portfolio committee, Ms Beauty Dlulane was here – she said she will push our issue on broadcasting.
"Because its an anomaly that, only in SA, the revenue from broadcasting is 16 percent. But if you look elsewhere, most of their [federation] budgets are made up of broadcasting."
