Samir Nurkovic sees way out of SuperSport United slump

SuperSport United striker Samir Nurkovic says there’s no doubting the determination from the squad to end their winless run.

Matsatsantsa have suffered three Betway Premiership defeats in a row and now host log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in the Tshwane Derby tomorrow night.

The slump has pushed SuperSport out of the top eight and led to questions over coach Gavin Hunt’s job security.

Nurkovic, who was finally registered to play last month, is confident of turning their fortunes around soon.

"I don't know about young players but me as a senior one, I've been through these situations and I can say that there is no club out there that hasn't been in such a situation. We can't drop our heads down we just need to keep them high up and keep working hard,” Samir said.

“We need to trust the process, I'm the new guy in the team, a couple of new players as well so the coach is obviously trying to find the best possible solution for every game. We're working hard, we need to stay consistent, we need to keep working even harder and the results will come."

The Serbian international reunites with Hunt having previously worked together at Kaizer Chiefs, albeit for a brief spell. Nurkovic adds that the experienced mentor is equipped to get them out of this situation.

"Big respect towards him, towards the coach, Gavin Hunt, amazing coach. Me, as a professional football player it doesn't matter what coach is there, I'm just trying to do my best,” he added.

“The first time at Chiefs, it was unfortunate that I was out due to injury. Now as well it's also a little bit of a difficult situation because also coming after seven months of not playing, trying to find myself, keep working hard and trying to get [fit] as soon as possible to start contributing to the team."
