This was confirmed to SABC Sport earlier this week by SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao, who revealed they are only two weeks away from filling this position.
Former Banyana Banyana defender Amanda Dlamini last held the reins and left office in November last year, with Monyepao assuring that SAFA’s search is now almost over.
"So, we advertised the position back in January and February, and we got a huge response from the public in terms of the interest in that position," said Monyepao.
"We then shortlisted and we brought the shortlisted applicants in for interviews. However, following those interviews, we were not able to identify a candidate that we really wanted.
"So we decided we should go back and look at other CVs that we had already received that we thought maybe we can't afford those people, but we have started engaging others that we think can be the most relevant people to the position.
"So we are really close to filling that position, which is really key for us. As you say, we need an experienced commercial person that knows the market, that knows how to unlock doors – the various doors, the big doors – in the corporate world.
"So we are really close and I think in the next two weeks or so we should be making an announcement."
Monyepao further revealed the race for this position is now down to only two candidates, with one of them known to SABC Sport as a former consultant to the FA who recently helped them clinch a new deal with one of the national teams.
"We are working with two candidates at the moment – hopefully one of them can take our offer once we choose who's ahead of who," she noted.
