Khenyeza was voted DStv Premier League Coach of the Month for September/October, making him the first Arrows coach to win the accolade since Clinton Larsen in 2017. Zwane says Khenyeza has always been diligent in his work on the field even as a player.
"I've been following Mabhuti's journey. He's been a legend and student of the game, even when he was playing. He used to be the harder player in the team, even when players had off days, he'd still train," he told SABC Sport.
"So, he and football it's something that runs in his veins. And now, since becoming a coach, he's done very well for himself. It's not easy for a coach of his calibre to, and coming from a very 'small' team to put the team where it is," he continued.
Abafana Bes’thende were undefeated in five games during that period, with victories over Sekhukhune United (0-1) Kaizer Chiefs (2-1) and Cape Town Spurs (1-2). Zwane believes the current batch of players is sensational.
"[When] I watch these boys I get so emotional. The way they exert themselves, the hunger that they are showing, the passion. Their game has everything, even when they don't have the ball you can see the way they react. And when they have the ball they're very dangerous. So. watching them, is very exciting."
Zwane believes Khenyeza's success is also because the majority of players grew up watching him play for the KwaZulu Natal outfit.
