At just 17 years and 109 days, Yamal becomes the youngest ever recipient of this prestigious award, joining previous Barcelona winners Pedri and Gavi, and following in the footsteps of 2023 winner Jude Bellingham.
Presented by France Football since 2018, the Kopa Trophy honours the most promising young players globally. Named after Raymond Kopa, the first Frenchman to win the Ballon d'Or, this accolade has recognised talents like Kylian Mbappe, Matthijs de Ligt, and most recently, Bellingham.
Yamal's win continues a strong Spanish tradition, as he becomes the third Barcelona player to claim this title.
Reflecting on his achievement, Yamal was quick to express his gratitude. "This award means a lot to me. I want to thank my mum, dad, and grandmother for their support, as well as my coaches, the Spanish national team, and everyone at Barcelona," he shared in his acceptance speech.
Yamal added a personal touch, giving a shout-out to his Barcelona neighbourhood, stating, "This is for my community, and for everyone who's believed in me. Visca Barca and onward!"
The young star, who helped Spain lift the Euro 2024 trophy earlier this year, has set his sights high for the future. Asked if he dreams of a career as illustrious as Ronaldo Nazario's, he smiled, "That would be fantastic. I just want to enjoy every moment on the pitch because when you have fun, everything flows naturally."
Looking ahead to the season, he remarked, "We're pushing for La Liga, the Champions League, everything is possible with this team."
This year's Kopa Trophy final standings saw Yamal at the top, followed by Real Madrid's Arda Guler, Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo, Savinho of Manchester City and Girona, and fellow Barcelona player Pau CubarsÃ.
Yamal now heads into December as the favourite for the Golden Boy Award, set to be announced by Italy's Tuttosport magazine, where he will compete against elite talents like Joao Neves, Warren Zaire-Emery, Alejandro Garnacho, and others.
