Stellenbosch in ideal space to face Kaizer Chiefs - Andre de Jong

Stellenbosch FC forward Andre de Jong says they are in high spirits as they prepare to face Kaizer Chiefs following their recent CAF Confederation Cup triumph at the weekend.

The two sides will meet at FNB Stadium on Wednesday, with Stellies having been in Gauteng since last week as they hosted Angolan side CD Lunda Sul at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.

De Jong, who netted a brace in their recent 2-0 victory to boost their chances of reaching the Confed Cup knockout stages, is eager to meet a wounded Amakhosi, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City at the weekend.

“The mood in camp is nice and positive. We’ve been together in Gauteng since Saturday and I think everyone is in a good space and looking forward to capping off the week with a good result against Kaizer Chiefs," de Jong told the club's official website.

“It’s a massively important match for us, primarily because of the congestion around us in the league table and also because this will be our only league match in January because of our CAF commitments, so we need to get maximum points."

While this will be their only Betway Premiership fixture for the month, the New Zealand-born attacker is wary of thinking too far ahead to their all-important Confed Cup assignment away to Stade Malien at the weekend.

“Personally it was very nice to have contributed with a couple of goals against Lunda Sul, but more importantly to get the three points in the group that has set us up nicely for the [next CAF] game on Sunday against Stade Malien,” he added.

“Our focus has shifted to Wednesday’s match against Kaizer Chiefs first though, and I think we’ve been buoyed by a big result from the weekend and hopefully we can carry our recent CAF form into the league.”

The Winelands outfit find themselves in fifth position on the league table, with Chiefs two places back in seventh ahead of Wednesday's encounter.
