Stellenbosch suffer major Lehlohonolo Mojela injury blow

Stellenbosch FC have suffered a major blow after the club confirmed that Lehlohonolo Mojela is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.

A statement from the Cape Winelands outfit revealed that the the forward will be out "for the majority of the remainder of the season".

Mojela, signed at the start of the current season from TS Galaxy, is Stellies' top goal-scorer this campaign having netted six times in nine matches prior to his injury

The news will come as major blow to head coach Steve Barker as Stellenbosch navigate domestic fixtures and their CAF Confederation Cup group matches.

Stellies are currently third in the league standings, six points behind Orlando Pirates, who they beat 1-0 on Sunday, and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Barker's charges lost their opening group game in the continental competition, going down 1-0 to Stade Malien in Mali, and next host Moroccan side RS Berkane on Sunday.

With their domestic campaign now on hold, with several postponements, they will then travel to Angola to face CD Lunda Sul on Sunday, 15 December, before returning to host Sundowns on Wednesday, 18 December.

In the absence of Mojela, they will need to rely on the likes of Ashley Cupido, Devin Titus, and several young and inexperienced talent such as Thulani Mini, Langelihle Phili, Roy Keane Avontuur, among others, while Andre de Jong could also lead the attack.
