Downs have won six consecutive league titles, while Pirates finished runners-up last season and managed to collect three domestic cup trophies in the year that coach Jose Riveiro has been in charge.
The Dube Birds boss, who spent a successful three years as part of Mamelodi Sundowns’ technical team, believes the Buccaneers are now in a strong position to take over the thrown from The Brazilians.
"Pirates, in the country currently, is one of the teams that I think, if and when anything happens to Mamelodi Sundowns, are likely to step in there," said Komphela.
"Even data supports that Pirates is next in line because they are patient, they are building, and all that. And it would be very dangerous for anyone who does not see something that is just about to click.
"But for you to understand that it's just about to click is for you to understand – if you don't know the pieces, you wouldn't know how they're going to merge and click."
"People sometimes don't understand what's happening, that's why it's so difficult for them to understand this is just about to click."
The Swallows mentor uses English Premier League side Liverpool as a case study to support his argument that Bucs only needed to beef up their goalkeeping department as well as acquire a centre-back to complete the puzzle.
"Go to Liverpool, go to Man United, go to Arsenal. If you check Liverpool, they had to go get [Virgil] van Dyk and the goalkeeper [Allison], and as soon as they go those players, it clicked," noted the former Bafana Bafana defender.
"It is the same discussion I had with Bra Stan "Screamer" Tshabalala, when they were heavily involved at Orlando Pirates – I said, 'The only thing you need to look at – and I'm not advising Orlando Pirates, but it's a football discussion – Liverpool.'"
