Despite missing key players Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart due to suspensions, Chiefs made significant changes to their line-up, offering rare starts to Siyethemba Sithebe, Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala, while also recalling Edmilson Dove and Sibongiseni Mthethwa.
The game kicked off with AmaKhosi displaying early intent, with Duba squandering a promising opportunity within the first six minutes, skying his volley over the crossbar. City responded swiftly, as Darwin Gonzalez unleashed a fierce shot that rattled the upright, signalling their attacking prowess.
As the match progressed, both sides had their chances, with debutant Aprocius Petrus impressing for City with a thunderous long-range effort that tested Chiefs' goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma. Despite occasional turnovers favouring Chiefs, their decision-making in the final third fell short, leading to a goalless first half.
Chiefs showed signs of resurgence towards the end of the first half, with Duba once again threatening, narrowly missing the target with a low shot across goal. However, the game lacked fluidity, prompting calls from the crowd for tactical changes from Chiefs' coach Cavin Johnson.
Johnson eventually made a substitution due to injury, bringing on defender Dillan Solomons in place of the injured Duba. Only late attacking changes saw Ranga Chivaviro and Christian Saile enter the fray for Chiefs, but neither side managed to break the deadlock in the dying moments.
Despite late efforts to push forward, both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances in the final third, resulting in a hard-fought 0-0 draw.
The match showcased defensive resilience and tactical discipline from both sides.
