Prior to the Englishman arriving in the DStv Premiership for a brief spell as a consultant at the Soweto outfit, the player’s agent confirmed to SABC Sport there were plans to find Dzvukamanja a new home.
But Chickelday managed to convince coach Jose Riveiro of Dzvukamanja, who had become a fringe player on his way out of the club.
"We didn't start well as strikers. For us not scoring, maybe we were not doing a lot of finishing, so in the second half [of the season], when the striker coach came, he motivated us and gave us confidence, and he worked very hard with us" said the Zimbabwe international.
Dzvukamanja has scored six goals in 11 DStv Premiership matches since January, and forced his way into being Pirates’ first-choice striker to silence the critics.
"People have to talk, but, for me, it was not something big that I can say, 'There are people that are talking and that's why I'm not playing.' I guess in the first round, even from pre-season, I was also injured, and that also took me down [the pecking order].
"So, I started working by myself to try and make myself available, and in the second round, when I started to play, God opened the doors for me and that's why I'm scoring as well."
