Speaking to SABC Sport at Safa’s CAF C license coaching course, Mammila is adamant if it wasn’t for Mokwena’s challenge, fewer PSL coaches would’ve worked on getting the necessary papers.
“I’m happy because since coach Rhulani was talking about this it has opened doors and coaches listened and let’s give it to him, because to be honest if it wasn’t him people won’t be here so because he said it and because of the love of the game we are all here, so we took it positively,” said Mammila.
“I’ve been looking at the statement differently but remember sometimes when you compete you have to counter-attack, you can’t just defend-defend you have to counter-attack.
"But to be honest it was a straight forward thing, it was his opinion, he had a right to say so and I’m happy he’s the first person who said so. It has opened eyes for lot of people even happy Jele was not going to be if Rhulani [Mokwena] did not talk about people who just want to come and coach without papers.”
Mammila, a football administrator turned technical team member at Chippa, came to the course with the experience of having sat on PSL benches.
He says he’s taken away a lot of knowledge about the game from a coaching perspective and claims they learned a lot during the 15 days of the CAF C license course in Ekurhuleni.
“I think this was a classic week where you learning from top instructors, you learning from knowledgeable players, you learning form knowledgeable coaches that are here,” Mammila added.
“To be honest most of us we came here quarter but today we almost full tank and I think we can drive a long distance in football because of the experience we gain just from participating with the expertise and knowledgeable instructors that are always here.”
Furthermore, Mammila has praised newly appointed Safa Technical Director Walter Steenbo for pushing all the coaches to go for these licenses.
