Thomas Tuchel: Bayern Munich reacted well to 'adversity' against Manchester United

The German side made a winning start to their UEFA Champions League group stage campaign with goals from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane, and Mathys Tel.

They enjoyed a 2-0 lead at half-time, but their advantage was cut short shortly after the break when Rasmus Hojlund scored his first goal for Manchester United.

Harry Kane swiftly restored Bayern's two-goal lead, converting from the penalty spot after Christian Eriksen was penalised for handling the ball inside the box. Casemiro added two late goals, sandwiching Tel's 92nd-minute strike, leading to a frantic finale.

Despite conceding three or more goals for the third consecutive game, a rarity for them since December 1978, Manchester United had a promising start to the match.

They could have taken an early lead through Facundo Pellistri, who nearly connected with Eriksen's low cross. Eriksen himself had an effort saved by Bayern's goalkeeper, Sven Ulreich.

Tuchel's acknowledgment of his team's luck was attributed to Manchester United's bright start in the game.

"It was a bit paradoxical because our second half was better than our first, but we lost the second and won the first. Tonight's result was big for our confidence and development, but there are still things to work on," Tuchel told DAZN.

"We're posing a threat in every game, creating chances in every game, but we were very reserved in the opening exchanges and lucky not to fall behind. The goals helped us establish some confidence and fluidity.

"We're not 100 per cent happy so far, but the reactions to adversity tonight were very good."
