Vinicius Junior receives two-match La Liga ban after red card

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has been handed a two-match La Liga suspension following his red card for violent conduct during Sunday's match against Valencia.

The Brazilian was sent off after shoving Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the back of the head, an incident that has sparked mixed reactions.

While Vinicius apologised to Real Madrid fans for his dismissal, he also expressed gratitude to his team-mates for their resilience in securing a 2-1 comeback victory after trailing 1-0.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti voiced his belief that the forward deserved only a yellow card, noting the physical nature of the game.

The ban means Vinicius will miss upcoming league fixtures against Las Palmas and Real Valladolid, both bottom-half opponents, a relief for Ancelotti as Real Madrid continues their title push.

Despite the suspension, the prolific forward, who has registered 13 goals and nine assists in 21 appearances across all competitions this season, remains eligible to feature in the Spanish Super Cup.

Currently in Saudi Arabia for the tournament, Real Madrid are set to face Real Mallorca in Thursday's semi-final.

A victory could see them take on either Barcelona or Athletic Club in Sunday's final.
