Virgil van Dijk: Liverpool can't afford complacency against PSG

Liverpool secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, but captain Virgil van Dijk has warned that the contest is far from over.

The Reds were largely outclassed at the Parc des Princes, with PSG dominating proceedings and registering a staggering 27 shots to Liverpool's two.

However, Arne Slot's side showed resilience, with goalkeeper Alisson Becker producing what he described as the performance "of his life" to keep the hosts at bay.

Despite PSG's dominance, Liverpool found a way to snatch victory late on. Substitute Harvey Elliott made an instant impact, scoring with his first touch in the 87th minute to end the French champions' remarkable 23-game unbeaten streak, which stretched back to November.

"It should be a great game and we have to be ready to suffer as they are a very good team who were unbeaten for a very long time," said the Liverpool captain.

"What I really liked was the togetherness, everyone put a shift in and we know everyone can be better."

He added: "We are coming to the last stages of the season and the message is pretty clear -- everyone who is part of the team has to play a part when they come on.

"With the goal you saw Darwin makes it difficult for Marquinhos and the ball falls and he gives a good pass to Harvey for the finish.

"Even Wataru coming on, Curtis doing a good job is good to see. Everyone needs to feel that importance because there are many big games -- and decisive games -- coming up so we have to keep going."
