Will it be Jwaneng Galaxy again for Orlando Pirates or Namibia’s African Stars?

Orlando Pirates are through to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League after beating Madagascar’s Disciples 4-0 at Orlando Stadium last night, and they could meet Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy again in the next round.

Galaxy, who eliminated Pirates to reach the lucrative group stages last season, play the second leg of their first preliminary round today against African Stars of Namibia, trailing 1-0 from the away leg.

The winner of the next tie will reach the group stages, with the first legs scheduled for the weekend of the 14th of next month.

This is how Bucs head coach Jose Riveiro responded when asked about Galaxy.

''Wishes are for birthdays, so I will try and be ready for both, as you say if Jwaneng is our next opponent, it will be an opportunity to play them again, we didn't have a good time playing them the last time. It will be a component of extra motivation for us,'' said Riveiro.

Galaxy are coached by South African respected coach Morena Ramoreboli, who has also coached Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup.

A meeting with African Stars will see Pirates play both games on home soil, with Namibia still not having approved stadia for CAF tournaments.

Riveiro appears to have already done his homework for the next stage.

''If it's African stars, for me it will be the first time in Namibia, for sure and an interesting team, it will not be a piece of cake. So both of them, I think they will be tough competition. Jwaneng with more experience, they did a good job last season in the group stage - collecting seven points if I am not mistaken. They are strong at home, so for us our commitment is to find ourselves in that group stage, it is something I would like to experience as a coach,'' added Riveiro.

The Pirates' goals came from Andoniaina's own goal before Relebohile Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Karim Kimvuidi added their names to the scoresheet. Riveiro says Disciples were no pushovers in this tie.

''Happy with the results, happy to find ourselves in the next stage. If you play football you would know how tough it is to play in the preliminary round. I think the team was fired up and we did a good job and well deserved,'' he concluded.

The score margin could have been bigger in last night’s game were it not for some poor officiating, with four goals disallowed for off-sides and TV replays showing the opposite. Riveiro was just happy that they managed to get themselves into those scoring positions.
