Wolves appoint Vitor Pereira as new manager to steer team out of crisis

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced Vitor Pereira as their new manager, following the sacking of Gary O'Neil, after a disappointing defeat to Ipswich Town.

The loss left Wolves languishing in 19th place on the Premier League table with just nine points from 16 matches.

Pereira, a seasoned tactician with global experience, takes on the critical task of saving Wolves from relegation.

The Portuguese manager has previously helmed prominent clubs such as Porto, Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe, Corinthians, Flamengo, and Al Shabab.

In his most recent stint, Pereira guided Al Shabab to an improved eighth-place finish in the Saudi Pro League.

The appointment aims to restore stability to a squad grappling with internal controversies. Pereira is expected to address issues involving Matheus Cunha, Mario Lemina, and Rayan Ait-Nouri, ensuring harmony within the team.

"We are delighted to welcome Vitor Pereira to Wolves as the new head coach of our men's first-team," Wolves chairman Jeff Shi stated on the club's website.

"Vitor is a highly respected and experienced coach who has achieved success across different leagues and will bring a new approach for the test ahead. This is a challenging moment for the club, and we want to thank Vitor for taking on this responsibility.

"We have full confidence in his ability to guide us back on track, alongside the players and staff, and the entire club will be united in supporting him to achieve success."

Pereira's first test as Wolves manager comes this Sunday against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The match presents an immediate challenge for the new boss, as Wolves strive to build momentum in their survival campaign.

On Boxing Day, Pereira will lead his side in a high-profile home game against Manchester United, managed by his compatriot Ruben Amorim.
