Xabi Alonso says he expects to see Victor Boniface back in action soon for Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
The 23-year-old Nigerian striker has played 23 times for his new team this season, scoring an impressive 16 goals and creating a further eight.
The former Union SG attacker has been sidelined for the past eight matches though with an abductor injury, and was subsquently unavailable for his country at the recently completed Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast where the Super Eagles ended as runners-up to the hosts.
Leverkusen are next in action against Cologne on Sunday afternoon but Boniface could make his return in the Europa League round of 16 encounter with Qarabag on Thursday.
The head coach was reported by Nigeriasoccernet to have given an update on Boniface as well as Brazilian right-back Arthur.
He said: "They are currently working hard, ambitiously and professionally on their comebacks.
"Things are going in the right direction."
