SABC Sport can reveal that AmaZulu are set to announce defender Thendo Mukumela as one of several new signings at the club this week.

The latest in player movements at the club is that Mukumela has left GladAfrica Championship side Cape Town Spurs to now form part of coach Brandon Truter plans in Durban.

The 24-year-old Mamelodi Sundowns youth graduate was part of coach David Notoane™s Olympic Games squad in Tokyo last year and featured in all three games in the group stages against hosts Japan, Mexico and France.

However, a move to a Premiership side following his display on the international stage did not materialise, though he was promoted to captain at Spurs in the 2021/22 campaign.

Last Friday, president Sandile Zungu told Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified that Usuthu would be unveiling their plans for the upcoming 2022/23 season, along with players that have been brought in following a clear-out last week.

AmaZulu offloaded 15 players, including midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe and centre-back Tapelo Xoki, who join Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates respectively.

Zungu played his cards close to his chest in an interview on Metro FM last week but did hint that Gabadinho Mhango and Dumisani Zuma could be on the list of new recruits, as has been reported by SABC Sport.

Mhango, who is currently on international duty with Malawi, last played for Pirates, while Zuma was at Chiefs until recently being released with a year left on his contract.
