Anrich Nortje included in Proteas squad for ICC Champions Trophy campaign

Anrich Nortje has been declared fit after being included in the Proteas' squad for the ICC Champions Trophy that will take place in Pakistan from 19 February – 9 March.

The fast bowler has not played any international cricket in the current summer after suffering a broken toe before the home white-ball matches against Pakistan.

Fellow paceman Lungi Ngidi has also been selected in the 15-man group having only just returned to action in the SA20 with the Paarl Royals following a groin injury.

Wiaan Mulder, Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickleton will be playing in their first senior ICC event while the rest of the squad is similar to the one that reached semifinals of the 2023 50-over World Cup in India.

Proteas white-ball head coach Rob Walter said: "This squad boasts a wealth of experience, with many players having consistently performed in high pressure situations. That kind of experience is invaluable in a tournament like this.

"We've managed to maintain the core group of our 2023 World Cup squad, whilst adding fresh talent.

"Our recent performances at ICC events show that we're capable of reaching the latter stages of global tournaments. We're eager to take the next step and go even further in pursuit of the coveted silverware."

Proteas squad for ICC Champions Trophy: Temba Bavuma (capt), Tony de Zorzi, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs, Rassie van der Dussen
