Tazmin Brits reacts to contract extension ahead of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup

Proteas Women batter Tazmin Brits has expressed excitement regarding her contract extension from Cricket South Africa ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Brits has made part of the 15-player squad expected to resume with preparation for the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Brits says it’s a blessing to continue to represent South Africa at the highest level.

"Definitely, a happy one, I don't think a person can wipe the smile off my face. It's always a blessing and a privilege to represent your country and to be able to do that playing cricket,” Brits said.

“So, yeah being contracted and being one of the 15 that are contracted, very, very excited. Also, very excited for the year to come, especially with having a World Cup down the line. So, yeah, very grateful for the contract.”

Proteas Women’s build up to the 50-overs World Cup, will resume with an international Tri-Series against Sri Lanka and India next month.

Brits says winning the Tri-Series will help the team to build from a good momentum.

"I mean of course if we can win the Tri-Series, I think that would be great momentum, you know heading to the next tournament that we play but also maybe just changing and shifting from T20, as we just had T20 World Cup to actually going to an ODI format,” she added.

“I think the expectation there for the team or maybe just to get in a good space and just make sure that the team and the momentum is moving forward."

South Africa will face India in their opening match of the Tri-tournament.

The 34-year-old explains what it will take to start the series with a win.

"I think that is a big game to set the tone especially moving forward and like I said shifting momentum for the Protea team but yeah, I think it's also a nice challenge, sometimes you gotta get out of your comfort zone in order to move forward. So, yeah, I think that's gonna be a very interesting game."
