NSA boss Cecilia Molokwane unapologetic for hiring a new coach despite lawsuit

Plummer retired from her position in December at the age of 79.

However, her appointment stirred controversy as she replaced Dorette Badenhorst, who took the national federation to court over alleged unfair dismissal, seeking millions in damages.

The legal proceedings are ongoing, with NSA President Cecilia Molokwane indicating that a resolution is imminent.

“We’ve named Norma Plummer as coach despite ongoing legal proceedings, and I fail to see why we shouldn’t also appoint another coach, Jenny Van Dyk, under similar circumstances,” Molokwane shared exclusively with SABC Sport.

“Legal matters are in the hands of our lawyers, and we’re confident in appointing Jenny without any apologies, Netball South Africa’s integrity outweighs any individual concerns. We’re determined to progress and won’t be deterred. Waiting for legal resolution isn’t an option,” 

Sources within the national netball federation told the national broadcaster that Badenhorst is seeking either reinstatement to her former position or a substantial monetary settlement, allegedly in the realm of millions.

However, the NSA vehemently refuses these claims through their legal representatives.

“As I mentioned, I am unable to provide any additional comments on the matter as it is now under the jurisdiction of legal professionals. This is a legal dispute between two parties, and we await the outcome before offering further insights,” clarified Molokwane.

SABC Sport’s attempts to reach Badenhorst were unsuccessful.

However, last year, she did acknowledge taking legal action against the NSA during an interview with the national broadcaster, shortly after losing her job. 

Molokwane acknowledged that there remains a disagreement between Badenhorst and the NSA concerning the issue of unfair dismissal, which is set to be resolved through legal proceedings.
