Netball South Africa celebrates Proteas Africa Cup success

Netball South Africa CEO Modiegi Komane says South Africa’s success at the 2024 African Netball Cup is a reflection of the hard work of the federation behind the scenes.

South Africa bagged the double with both the Spar Proteas and the men's team crowned champions on Saturday at the MTC Dome in Swakopmund, Namibia.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Komane says they are proud of the players’ commitment to dominate on the continent.

"We are very happy and immensely proud of both our teams. As we've seen, they never lost even a single game," said Komane.

"We would like to say their consistent and excellent performance at the Africa Cup is a clear reflection of the unwavering commitment, discipline, and hard work, and for that we are very grateful.

"You can see it's a manifestation of the planning and hard work that goes into everything Netball South Africa stands for, our strategies, what the coaches are doing, the selections portfolio are doing.

"So it's everybody coming together and ensuring these pieces of the puzzle come together. At the end of the day, the excellence part is reflected [in the results]."

Komane also praised coach Jenny van Dyk and her technical team for securing their first major trophy since their appointment in February.

"We would like to say a job well done to Coach Jenny and Coach Zanele for starting the netball season on a high, we know their profiles, we know their credentials, they are doing extremely well," she added.

"We've seen the work that they put in, there's a new strategy they've come with, together with the director, so it's not only during the tournament.

"So well done to the two of them, well done to the entire team because it takes the entire team – from putting together the logistics, the conditioning coach, the physio, the doctor, all of them – we really congratulate them for a job well done."
