The exact venue and date of the encounters are yet to be finalised by Netball South Africa (NSA), but president Cecilia Molokwane confirmed to SABC Sport that discussions are underway with the Sunshine Girls on a possible test match against the Proteas.
Van Dyk was unveiled as Norma Plummer's successor at a public announcement held in Johannesburg last week, and will lead the Proteas on a four-year contract until after the 2027 Netball World Cup.
“Her first match will take place in South Africa, marking the beginning of a test series with an undisclosed opponent," Molokwane told the public broadcaster without wanting to give much away.
"The Spar test series is pivotal, serving as a platform to gauge her prowess as a national coach, given our confidence in her abilities within the sport.
"It is scheduled between September and October, and the series aims to assess her capabilities thoroughly."
In January, Molokwane revealed to SABC Sport exclusively that a deal had been struck with the Jamaican netball federation, highlight that the finalisation thereof was imminent.
NSA have now opted not to impose specific mandates on van Dyk, preferring to observe her coaching prowess under natural conditions, and basing expectations on results and progress.
"Our focus is solely on performance; it transcends mere mandates. Success in the upcoming test series, the Commonwealth Games, and World Cup matches is paramount," the president added.
"Let’s afford her the opportunity to demonstrate her potential. Her recent triumph with Botswana national team during a legacy project underscores her coaching aptitude."
