Following Nigeria's recent back-to-back games against Guinea-Bissau in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Jose Peseiro, Nigeria's head coach, expressed mixed emotions.
While Nigeria was able to win one game, they lost the other, leaving Peseiro both optimistic and disappointed.
After losing the first game 1-0 on Friday in Group A at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Peseiro's changes avenged that defeat by edging past the Djurtus 1-0 at the September 24 Stadium in Bissau on Monday night.
Moses Simon, the Nantes winger, scored the winning goal from the spot on the half-hour mark after Bright Osayi-Samuel, an enterprising right-back, was brought down inside the box.
Peseiro expressed his disappointment with the team's inability to convert their scoring opportunities in his post-match interview, stating that they could have won by a greater margin in both games.
"We could have won 6-1 in Abuja and 5-0 here in Bissau today because we played better on Friday than today. But that's football.
"Sometimes you play better than your opponents, but the result will show otherwise," said the Portuguese tactician.
Despite the mixed results, Peseiro remains optimistic and focused on the next match, as the Super Eagles prepare to travel to Sierra Leone for their next game on Sunday, June 11.
