She used the money to realize her mother Phindile’s dream of owning a house in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Despite her dedicated efforts as one of the 24 contracted Proteas players during the World Cup, Mngomezulu unfortunately, did not make the final 15-member squad that represented the Proteas in Cape Town in July/August.
However, she expressed her gratitude to Netball SA for enabling her to fulfil her mother’s long-cherished wish.
Mngomezulu is actively participating in the ongoing SA Senior Netball Championships, representing defending champions Johannesburg, and showcasing her skills at High School Rustenburg.
"Getting that amount, has changed my life a lot because I've done a thing that I never thought at my age I would do. I've just fulfilled one of my wishes. So, I thought with my first payment, I was gonna build my mum a house but with that money, the one that I got from Netball South Africa I've built my mum a house with it and it's finished. She just moved in last month," Mngomezulu said.
"She's happy and it's the best thing that I could have done for her. I wish I could have done it a long time ago but I didn't have money. She's very proud."
Mngomezulu views her exclusion from the final World Cup squad as a minor setback, one that has ignited her determination to redouble her efforts.
She is now more motivated than ever to strive for a spot on the team for the upcoming global championships set to take place in Australia in 2027.
"I will not say I felt bad. I think God just gave me another chance to go and work hard. For me, it's just another second chance, I think we still have more World Cups to come. So, I think I need to go back and fix whatever made me not make the squad but I'm just proud of myself because each and every player that played in the World Cup is just really good," she added.
