On-form Kabelo Mulaudzi shines at the Durban 10km race

Kabelo Mulaudzi’s impressive streak of victories on the road continued as he claimed yet another 10km accolade.

Mulaudzi, in impeccable form, secured his fourth consecutive 10km race win by crossing the finish line at the Hollywoodbets Summer 10km race held at Kings Park Stadium earlier today.

Clocking his personal best time of 28:01 to beat his previous PB of 28:26, Mulaudzi not only asserted his dominance but also pocketed the coveted R35 000 prize money, making this event the most lucrative 10km race in the country.

Elroy Gelant clinched second place with a time of 28:04, earning him R27 500, while Thabang Mosiako secured third place in 28:07, walking away with a well-deserved R25 000 prize.

"I'm feeling very happy to win this race, three out of three. I know the pressure was hard but I try to maintain the pressure. Every time I come to Durban I run a PB," Mulaudzi said.

Mulaudzi faced a challenging start during the initial 5km, falling behind the frontrunners.

However, he displayed remarkable resilience, making a spectacular comeback in the last 2km of the race.

In a thrilling sprint finish, he overtook Gelant, securing his position as the third member of the Boxer Running Club to claim victory in the Durban 10km event, following the footsteps of Collen Mulaudzi and Precious Mashele.

"Yeah, when I started my body was not responding well. So, after 6km's my body started to pick up. The pressure was hard so I tried to handle it and wait for the right time but on the last 2km I decided I was gonna pull out from them," Mulaudzi added.

Over the past two months, he has triumphed in the Absa Run Your City Durban and Tshwane 10km, Central Gauteng cross-country, and the Summer 10km competition.

Mulaudzi credited his impressive performance to his dedication and the guidance of his coach, Richard Meyer.

"I can say this one is the best season for me because last season I was struggling with injuries ups and downs. So, I think this year I'm consistent."
