The exciting list of finalists includes Akani Simbine, Dricus Du Plessis, Relebohile Mofokeng, Tatjana Smith, and Ronwen Williams, all of whom have made significant contributions to the sporting scene during the 2023/24 season, proudly representing South Africa on a global scale.
These five finalists have collectively earned over 20 accolades during the eligibility period from August 1, 2023, to September 15, 2024.
Their next significant achievement in 2 weeks will be determined through public SMS voting, where a voter stands a chance to win R5 000 in cash.
Voting will close on 24 November at 12pm

The 13th Gauteng Sport Awards will be held at the University of Johannesburg on 24 November 2024 and will be broadcast Live on SABC TV.
Ronwen Willians
The Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana keeper has about seven accolades, including the AFCON Goalkeeper of the Year; SA Footballer of the Season; COSAFA Goalkeeper of the Year; and Most Clean sheets (18) in the last season, among others.
His accolades went on to earn him a nomination at the recently held global Ballon d’Or Awards.
Akani Simbine
During the period under consideration, the South African sprint sensation earned himself a spot in the top five for his outstanding performance in one of the toughest and most competitive sports.
He won an Olympic silver medal as part of the South African 4 × 100 metres relay team by finishing second, and also went on to win the 100m gold at the 2024 Diamond League.
Relebohile Mofokeng
Having set the PSL football scene alight, Mofokeng won the Nedbank Cup and MTN Cup with the Orlando Pirates, as well as the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season.
He also won the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament, with his accolades have earned him the honour of being dubbed ‘President Yama 2000’, as a leading young talent in South African Football.
Tatjana Smith
Smith won the most sought-after medal (gold) in the 100-meter breaststroke and silver in the 200-meter breaststroke at the recent Paris Olympics 2024.
Her prowess in the water has ensured South Africa regains the respect it deserves when it comes to Swimming, while her achievements have cemented her status as the leading swimmer in South African history.
Dricus Du Plessis
The first South African to win the tough and brutal Mixed Martial Arts UFC Championship, Dricus Du Plessis must know something his opponents don’t know.
He is the current UFC Middleweight Champion and is ranked sixth in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.
He is the former Welterweight and Middleweight Extreme Fighting Championships (EFC) Champion, and former Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki (KSW) Welterweight Champion.
