Jenny van Dyk set sights on the upcoming Africa Netball Cup

Spar Proteas head coach Jenny van Dyk reveals that she is shifting her focus on the Africa Netball Cup preparations.

The national team wrapped up a 3-0 clean sweep against Malawi with a 69-24 victory in the final Test of the SPAR Challenge netball series, hosted at the Ellis Park Arena over the weekend.

With the Africa Cup just a month away, Van Dyk confirmed to SABC Sport that she will be hosting virtual sessions with players to keep them in motion ahead of the African showpiece.

"In this month we will travel remotely and go to the players and work hard because, in our next challenge, we will play the Africa Cup from the 08th to the 15th of December. I think what I've heard is Uganda and Malawi will both be there so this is a very important competition for us and obviously taking on Uganda after we've lost against them in the Common Wealth [Games] and the World Cup is an important priority for us,” Van Dyk said.

“It's important that we close that gap and that we perform well against them. In saying that, I don't think it's going to be easy at all but we are preparing ourselves for a very difficult contest."

The three-day test against Malawi was the newly elected technical team’s first big assignment as the team builds up to the 2027 World Cup.

Van Dyk says she is pleased with the outcome and would not have asked for a better start.

"Yes, we are very happy with the 3-0 against Malawi, playing against one of the lower ranked, 7th ranked teams puts you under a lot of pressure. Especially if you play them home because the expectation is that you have to win and that's obviously the pressure, we've put on ourselves as well but we couldn't have asked for a better start."
