The Bulls established an early lead with an Elrigh Louw try in the third minute and maintained it throughout the Jukskei derby, which witnessed a total of nine tries and ended with a narrow 33-32 scoreline in favor of the visitors.
Scoring four tries in the first half, the Bulls held a 26-20 advantage at halftime.
Despite the Lions' determined fight until the end, the Bulls showcased resilient defense to preserve their one-point lead, culminating in Lombard's wayward game-deciding kick.
With tries from Louw, David Kriel, Embrose Papier, Mornay Smith, and Marcell Coetzee, the Bulls showcased their attacking prowess, while Edwill van der Merwe's two tries threatened their lead.
Nonetheless, the Bulls' resolute defense and Lombard's missed drop-goal secured their hard-earned victory.
Griffons 21-47 Griquas
The Griquas delivered a thrilling try-filled performance as they triumphed over the resilient Griffons with a resounding 47-21 victory in round eleven of the Currie Cup in Welkom.
The home side wasted no time, with winger Granwill Matthys crossing the try line within the opening 14 minutes.
However, Griquas swiftly responded, scoring through scrumhalf Johan Mulder and Jay-Cee Nel, resulting in a 14-14 tie after 25 minutes of play.
Two additional converted tries allowed the visitors to establish a comfortable 28-14 lead at halftime.
While the Griffons fought back with an early second-half try by Jean Pretorius, it proved to be their sole points in the latter half.
Griquas, driven by an outstanding performance from flyhalf Lubabalo Dobela, who contributed a try and six conversions, sealed the victory with second-half tries from Carl Els, Ashlon Davids, and replacement Sango Xamlashe.
