Former Bulls speedster Madosh Tambwe scored the winning try as Bordeaux-Begles secured a spot in the French Top 14 semi-finals by defeating Lyon 32-25 on Sunday.

Tambwe, who was born in the Congo but played all of his rugby in South Africa before joining Bordeaux last year, scored two tries on the night, with both coming courtesy of spectacular solo efforts.

The second try came late in the match after Lyon had drawn level at 25-25 with a great score of their own, and effectively secured victory for Bordeaux.

Tambwe's significant contribution helped set up a clash with Champions Cup holders La Rochelle in San Sebastian the following Saturday.

"Madosh is a great player, he arrived and shined quickly before a tough first winter in France where he discovered the harshness of the Top 14 in winter," loose forward Mahamadou Diaby told reporters.

"Tonight he came along at the right time."

The 26-year-old Tambwe also had spells with the Lions and Sharks before moving to Pretoria to join the Bulls, where he really started to make a name for himself, catching the eye of French scouts.

In the other semi-final, Toulouse, the 21-time champions, will face Racing 92 on Friday. Racing defeated Stade Francais 33-20 in an exciting Parisian derby.
