The log-leading Sharks, who host the Golden Lions at 19h00 on Saturday, are just one win away from a home semi-final berth after nine wins from 12 matches.
And Mongalo, who is only in his first season as head coach of the group, says the buy-in from the club structures has invigorated the campaign.
"The rugby community of Durban has been good to us. Why? Because we've had quite a few club players in our system, which is very helpful and means there's a relationship between the amateur and professional leg, which is a great thing," said Mogalo.
"Then, a bit closer to home, the coaching and support staff around us are phenomenal people, we only just got to know each other this year, but the way we've bonded has almost been like a mother and father in the house.
"That's reflected in what I call – not that they are kids but in this analogy – the players, and I want to that them."
With only one game remaining in the round-robin after this weekend’s fixtures, the Durbanites are already assured of a playoff spot, but Mongalo has warned his players not to think too far ahead.
"We keep reminding ourselves that one thing you can't control in sport is the outcome. What you can always control is your attitude and actions – AA is how we try to remember it," he added.
"So, if our attitude can be the same as those guys who, a month-and-a-half ago, were desperate, winning one game and losing another, we'll be okay.
"If our actions, firstly, throughout the week – are we putting in the effort? Are we sweating as much? If we can control those actions and attitudes, then whatever the Lord has allowed to align will reflect on the scoreboard, but we don't have any control of that."
