Sharks Director of Rugby Neil Powell believes the team can build on a decent performance against Ospreys on Friday night.
The Durban-based franchise ran out to a 25-10 victory over a spirited Ospreys in Friday night's United Rugby Championship clash at Kings Park. The Sharks dominated large parts of the game but had little to show for their efforts until two late tries from a returning Curwin Bosch and hardman James Venter put an exclamation point on the victory.
While it was not a polished performance by any means, it was a step in the right direction after being humbled 35-0 by Cardiff just five days prior.
"Everybody that knows me knows it's not just about the result for me," Powell, who has taken over coaching duties in the wake of Sean Everitt's departure," told rugby365.com.
"It's also about the way we play, the effort that we put in and how we execute the plan and how well we do in our individual roles and responsibilities.
"We can definitely make a step up there. We will learn from our mistakes, but there was some good dominance in that game as well, especially in the first half, scrum dominance as well.
"There were a lot of positives as well, but we do need to make sure that we get it right for next weekend.
"I think if we can get that on-field confidence early in the game, and get it right, I do think we will be a lot more accurate and a lot more successful in the future.
"But it's a small step at the time and hopefully we can build on this. We got a little bit of confidence and a positive result from this game."
The Sharks now turn their attention to the Heineken Champions Cup, where they host Harlequins on 10 December.
