Schalk Brits impressed by the Springboks’ squad depth

Former Springboks hooker Schalk Brits has hailed coach Rassie Erasmus for another successful year.

Brits says the style of play shown by the team is because of the work done by the coaching team led by Rassie.

Speaking to SABC Sport in Durban Brits adds that the team's depth is impressive as more than 50 players got an opportunity to play.

"Best rugby team this year, not just the way they play the rugby and win but how they rotate the squad. The way that Rassie has picked the squad, I think he has used 52 or 51 players this year,” Brits said.

“So, from that perspective, having that kind of depth and that performance and those results speak very highly of the squad. For me personally, I know they compare to 2015 and 2012 All Blacks but this side with the number of players we use, it's just absolutely phenomenal and lastly the way we are evolving our game, we can play different structures and different players. I'm very excited to watch rugby."

The dominance of the Boks in World Rugby has been something that has not been seen in the sport's history.

The former Blue Bulls star says the South African Rugby Union (SARU) must work on strengthening development to maintain this remarkable run.

"The system needs to bring talent through that's one thing that I think [needs to be done]. There's so much untapped potential within South Africa. So, with time, I think SARU is doing a great job currently,” he added.

“The schools are doing a great job, the culture in South Africa where you see now Siya [Kolisi] running out, it brings hope to our country. The reason people think, it's not about winning at rugby, it's about bringing hope, irrelevant of what background, religion, what upbringing you have, it's nice seeing guys performing at a high level."
