Sharks secure narrow win over Zebre in thrilling URC encounter

The Sharks secured a dramatic 35-34 win over Zebre at Kings Park on Saturday, cementing their place in the top four of the United Rugby Championship after Round 13.

The bonus-point victory ensures they remain in third or fourth position as the race for the playoffs heats up.

The match began in dominant fashion for the Sharks, as they raced to a 14-0 lead within 12 minutes. However, Zebre hit back with two converted tries to level the scores at 14-14.

A yellow card for Makazole Mapimpi allowed the visitors to edge ahead 17-14, but Siya Kolisi's second try of the match restored the Sharks' advantage at 21-17.

Vincent Koch then crossed over just before half-time, giving the home side a commanding 28-17 lead at the break.

Zebre capitalised on sloppy play from the Sharks in the second half, with Geronimo Prisciantelli scoring twice to propel the Italian side into a 31-28 lead.

Giovanni Montemauri's penalty extended their advantage to 34-28, putting the Sharks under pressure heading into the final minutes.

However, Zebre's Muhamed Hasa was shown a yellow card in the 72nd minute for repeated scrum infringements, and the Sharks took full advantage.

Ethan Hooker powered over for the match-winning try, with Jordan Hendrikse coolly slotting the conversion to secure a nail-biting 35-34 victory.

Kolisi's two-try performance and Hendrikse's flawless kicking proved vital, while Vincent Koch's bonus-point try ensured the Sharks maximised their points haul.

Despite the loss, Zebre's Prisciantelli and Montemauri shone with key contributions.
