Alaves claim crucial La Liga win as identity shines through

Luis Garcia Plaza's Alaves rediscovered their identity in a much-needed 1-0 victory against Mallorca in La Liga, ending a five-match winless streak.

The team showcased their trademark direct style, second-ball play, intensity, and solid defensive organisation, reflecting their commitment to capitalising on crucial moments.

The coach's relief was evident as he celebrated the victory, acknowledging the mounting pressure for his side to secure three points. "We needed this win," he stated, emphasising its significance for morale.

From the outset, Alaves made their intentions clear, pressing high and aiming to dominate at their Mendizorroza home. Their strategy centred around exploiting the inexperience of Mallorca's new goalkeeper, Leo Roman.

The visitors proved resilient, though, limiting Alaves to a near miss from a Jon Guridi cross that struck the post.

As the match progressed, Mallorca found their rhythm, with striker Cyle Larin troubling Alaves' defenders and Chiquinho posing a threat after being a late replacement for the injured Valery.

However, it was Alaves who broke the deadlock in the second half when Guridi capitalised on a defensive lapse.

Although Mallorca pushed late for an equaliser, Alaves stood firm, demonstrating their resolve to climb back up the league table.

Maffeo's post-match comments highlighted the frustrations, stating, "We shouldn't have had to play like that."
