Usuthu are following in the footsteps of Mamelodi Sundowns in appointing a high-profile TD and seeking someone with past expertise and a UEFA Pro or CAF A license. And "Yeye" is enthralled by the path Usuthu is following.
"One of the reasons that made me move from Joburg and grab this opportunity is that AmaZulu is an ambitious club. Yes, they have a rich history, but they don't just allow that to stay that [way], they want to be better every day. They want to change with time and this decision they have taken it's one of those decisions you see that they are doing something, they want to be better and they want the team entirely to compete with other big teams, especially the ones in Gauteng", he said.
Despite not meeting the criteria, Letsholonyane's former Bafana Bafana teammate Bongani Khumalo has been linked to the TD job at AmaZulu.
The Kaizer Chiefs legend was introduced earlier this year at Usuthu after they restructured their development strategy. AmaZulu are the only club in KwaZulu-Natal with four youth divisions, out of the five elite-level clubs.
"It is an exciting time for me. I'm with the under-17s and I can say we are fairly doing well, played the 6th game [of the regional league] last weekend and we won four and drew two, as things stand I'm on top of the log. I think things are going well, but it's a work in progress. We keep working hard, making ourselves as a coach and as players better so that AmaZulu can have better players and then coaches in the near future.”
Letsholonyane, who was previously linked to a scouting position with the Chiefs, is seeking to lead Usuthu to the Engen Knockout Challenge. They must win the KZN leg of the tournament before competing in the national championships in Johannesburg in September.
