Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone talks tactics ahead of Celta Vigo test

Diego Simeone struck an optimistic tone as he addressed the media ahead of Atletico Madrid's clash with Celta Vigo on Saturday.

Simeone highlighted the healthy competition within his squad, particularly on the right wing. "There's competition everywhere, healthy and important competition," he said. "We will need all of them. Besides the right side, there's competition on the left, in the centre, up front... This makes us more competitive, and we hope to continue along this line."

On the upcoming match, Simeone focused on the immediate challenge. "Celta Vigo," he remarked. "We aim to focus on what's coming. They are a brave team that plays very well offensively. They have interpreted their coach's philosophy of play very well and attack with many players in the opponent's half."

When asked about what it would take to lead the league, Simeone was pragmatic. "Statistics are just numbers," he said. "We return to taking matches one at a time to complete the journey, which is what gives us the opportunity to achieve our goals."

Simeone expressed his passion beyond football. "I am most in love with the competition of life," he said, "having health, strength, energy, and the drive to convey to people what I feel about this game."

Understanding the physical toll on his players, Simeone noted, "We understood that the boys had made a great effort, and we are now prepared for a new match." He also emphasized the importance of squad rotation. "We need everyone; match by match, we will see which players can solve the games, not just those who start but also considering what might happen in the second half because the match is long."

Regarding the Copa del Rey tie, Simeone praised their opponents. "They are the best playing team in LaLiga," he said. "They attack brilliantly, and the statistics of their season speak for themselves."

Simeone acknowledged the challenge Celta Vigo presents. "They are brave, with various offensive options, good combinations... It's a well-drilled team, clear in their approach, and they come off a comeback from 2-0 down, which gives them enthusiasm."

On the choice between players, Simeone explained, "We believed for the matches he started, Lino was more suitable than Conor, who is more about teamwork and ball recovery. Lino brings more pace and speed."

Finally, on the topic of injuries, Simeone was pleased with the team's current health. "We are in a good moment, and we must continue to take care of it as we have been doing since the beginning of the season."
