Banyana Banyana stalwarts spotted at TS Galaxy Queens

SABC Sport has learnt that Banyana Banyana stalwarts Refiloe Jane and Leandra Smeda are training with TS Galaxy Queens ahead of the 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League season.

Both players, who have over 200 caps between them, are understood to be looking to sign with The Rockets and put their experience to good use in the club’s bid to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

The club has yet to release information on any of their new arrivals, but Ramothwe Mogomotsi, Mathilda Ontong and Erin Herz all departed a few weeks ago, with the latter rejoining her former club JVW FC.

SABC Sport visited Galaxy’s training ground and spotted Jane and Smeda, with head coach Sizwe Sibiya coy on their presence at the club, but the public broadcaster understands that an announcement is imminent.

Jane is currently working her way back to fitness following an operation she underwent late last year, and has not played much since leaving Sassuolo in Italy in June 2024.

The former AC Milan midfielder last played in a competitive match in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers against Nigeria in April, running out for Banyana.

Meanwhile, after leaving University of the Western Cape (UWC) three seasons ago, Smeda found a new home in Spain for Dux Logrono in the second division, before joining RCD Espanyol in 2023, and later FC Masar in Egypt as well as FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark last year.

The Rockets, who finished third in the 2024 campaign, will open their 2025 season when they host a new-look University of Fort Hare at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday, 8 March.
