After initial uncertainty, fresh optimism has emerged at Camp Nou, offering a glimpse into the Catalan giants' strategy for retaining their core players.
Negotiations with Araujo had been stalled earlier this year, but recent talks have reportedly turned positive. The Uruguayan defender, a vital part of Barcelona's backline, is now expected to commit to a long-term future with the club.
A MARCA source close to the discussions shared: "Araujo is more than just a player; he's a leader in defence. The plan is to reward him with a significant salary increase that reflects his importance to the team." Both sides are believed to be eager to finalise the agreement before the end of 2024.
Frenkie de Jong's case has been slightly more complex. The Dutch midfielder, whose current deal carries a hefty salary, has been offered a restructured contract that would spread his earnings over a longer period.
While his initial response caused concern among club officials, insiders now suggest De Jong is inclined to stay. "Frenkie's dedication to Barcelona's philosophy has been evident. He looks ready to commit and sign the new deal," a source revealed.
Meanwhile, the club's negotiations with young stars Pedri and Gavi are proceeding smoothly. The two midfielders, viewed as the foundation of Barcelona's long-term plans, are expected to finalise their extensions without much difficulty.
Barcelona's efforts underline their intent to balance experience and youth, ensuring the squad remains competitive in the coming seasons.
