Barcelona edge closer to registering Dani Olmo after financial windfall

Barcelona's prospects of registering Dani Olmo for the second half of the season have taken a significant turn for the better.

Following a 100 million euro financial injection from selling VIP boxes at the newly-renovated Camp Nou to Middle Eastern investors, the club now have the means to address their registration challenges.

Olmo, who joined Barcelona in August 2024 for a transfer fee of up to 62 million euros from RB Leipzig, has yet to secure his first-team registration for January 2025, alongside team-mate Pau Victor.

The financial boost enables the Catalan club to rectify this issue while also returning to La Liga's 1:1 spending rule.

Under the 1:1 rule, clubs can reinvest all revenue generated from player sales or wage savings directly into new players.

This marks a departure from the restrictive 1:4 rule Barcelona had been operating under, which allowed only 1 euro of spending for every 4 euros saved.

Barcelona's initial attempts to register Dani Olmo were thwarted when a judge rejected their case.

The club even launched a lawsuit against La Liga to address the matter, though the latest financial developments might lead them to withdraw the claim.

Despite this progress, Barcelona continue to grapple with significant debt, underlining the importance of sustainable financial management moving forward.
