Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany wary of Kiel's giant-killing spree

Holstein Kiel, despite languishing near the bottom of the Bundesliga table, have shown they are no pushovers against the league's elite.

The team have only managed three wins this season, but their performances against top clubs have been notable. Bayern Munich's manager, Vincent Kompany, acknowledged this threat ahead of their clash.

Bayern Munich, who lead the league with 48 points from 19 matches, boast the best attack and defence in the Bundesliga. However, Kompany remains cautious, recognizing Kiel's recent form. "Holstein Kiel are my priority," Kompany said.

"It's good to hear that we have the best attack and defence. That shows we're doing our job. It's always about mentality."

Kiel have surprised many by securing a 4-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund earlier this month and holding champions Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-2 draw in October. They also managed a 2-2 draw against VfL Wolfsburg last week, showing they can compete against teams from the upper echelons of the league.

"What Kiel did against Dortmund, Leverkusen and Wolfsburg... That's a feeling they can bring tomorrow," Kompany added. "We don't distinguish between opponents, just want to go into the game with hunger."

In other news, the German Football League (DFL) are set to introduce a pilot project this weekend where referees will explain VAR decisions to fans in the stadium.

Kompany commented on this innovation, saying, "It's an innovation if it's about communication in the stadium. We've seen it in other sports. I'm always in favour of innovation. Let's see how it goes. Compared to other leagues, the Bundesliga has fewer and shorter VAR stoppages.

"It often takes longer in other leagues. We need to see what happens now. I welcome the general idea of looking for more transparency."

This match-up promises to be an intriguing contest, with Bayern looking to maintain their league supremacy and Kiel aiming to continue their surprising form against top-tier competition.
