Borussia Dortmund reportedly held a crucial meeting with their talented right winger, Ansgar Knauff, to discuss his future at the Bundesliga club.
However, German publication Bild reports that, Dortmund's inability to provide a clear plan that suits Knauff has left his prospects uncertain.
Since joining Eintracht Frankfurt in January last year on loan, the 21-year-old has faced increased competition on the wings at Dortmund in his absence, with the acquisitions of Karim Adeyemi and the resurgences of Julian Brandt and Youssoufa Moukoko under BVB coach Edin Terzic.
Moreover, Dortmund are rumoured to be in the market for further attacking options in the upcoming summer transfer window, making Knauff's path to the first team even more challenging when his loan deal is up in June 2023.
As a result, Frankfurt may have an opportunity to secure Knauff's services permanently, as he has struggled to find consistent playing time at Dortmund. However, Bild's report suggested that Frankfurt are unwilling to meet Dortmund's asking price of around ¬10million for the talented youngster, whose contract runs until 2024.
Notably, English clubs have also expressed interest in Knauff, further highlighting the rising demand for his services.
Throughout the season, Knauff has found himself frequently switching between the bench and the starting line-up, competing with players like Aurelio Buta, Dina Ebimbe, and Philipp Max for the wing-back positions.
However, with the departure of Daichi Kamada and uncertainty surrounding Jesper Lindstrom's future, Knauff could potentially play a more prominent role further up the field if he chooses to stay at Frankfurt.
Knauff's future at Dortmund remains uncertain, with Frankfurt and English clubs vying for his services and it will be interesting to see what materialises in the upcoming summer transfer window.
