Bundesliga: Napoli's Eljif Elmas on the verge of signing for RB Leipzig

This was confirmed by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis on Friday.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Elmas has already touched down in Germany to undergo comprehensive medical examinations with his prospective new club.

The 24-year-old is expected to sign a long-term deal with Leipzig, marking a significant shift in his career.

Despite Napoli's upcoming clash with Jose Mourinho's Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night, Elmas will not be available for selection, indicating the advanced nature of his transfer proceedings.

President De Laurentiis revealed that Elmas expressed a desire for more playing time, prompting Napoli to make the decision to sell him permanently.

The departure of Elmas opens the door for potential replacements, with Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg emerging as one of Napoli's targets.

Juventus has also shown interest in the Danish midfielder, but Spurs are unlikely to entertain a loan deal for the 28-year-old unless it includes an obligation to buy.

Elmas, who joined Napoli from Fenerbahce in 2019 for ‚¬16million, has had a notable stint with the Partenopei, amassing 189 appearances and contributing 19 goals during his time at the Stadio Maradona.
