Bundesliga players vote for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz and Xabi Alonso

Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz and Xabi Alonso dominated their categories as the Bundesliga players voted them best player and manager of the season respectively.

The poll, conducted by kicker and involving 227 Bundesliga players, saw Wirtz comfortably securing the best player of the season award with an impressive 51.1% of the vote, outshining teammate Granit Xhaka, who received 7.5% of the votes.

Other notable players who received votes included Alejandro Grimaldo (6.2%), Sehrou Guirassy (5.3%), and Jamal Musiala (4.4%).

In a similar vein, Xabi Alonso's stellar performance as a coach earned him the best manager of the season accolade, capturing a notable 60.4% of the vote share.

Other coaches who received votes included Sebastian Hoeneß (28.6%), Frank Schmidt (4.4%), and Christian Streich (2.2%).

The recognition also extended to the goalkeeping category, with Alexander Nubel clinching the best goalkeeper of the year title with 30% of the vote.

This acknowledgement solidifies his place in the German national team for Euro 2024. Behind Nubel were Gregor Kobel (22.9%), Lukas Hrádecký (10.1%), and Oliver Baumann (7%).

However, the awards also shed light on disappointments, with categories such as most disappointing player and coach drawing attention.

Werder Bremen's Naby Keïta was voted the most disappointing player with 25.6% of the vote, followed by Niklas Sule (13.2%) and Dayot Upamecano (9.3%).

Similarly, Nenad Bjelica emerged as the most disappointing coach with 18.1% of the vote, followed closely by Niko Kovac (16.7%) and Thomas Tuchel (16.3%).
