The 28-year-old cut ties with DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns on a free transfer and subsequently signed for Raja Casablanca nearly 12 months ago, but has returned home and is expected to settle in the Mother City.
Domingo had high hopes ahead of his spell with the Moroccan giants, who are coached by ex-Orlando Pirates mentor Jozef Zinnbauer and Fadlu Davids as his assistant, penning a two-year deal at the time.
But, as reported by the public broadcaster in April, the attacker was forced to have his dispute with Raja Casablanca handled by FIFA following the club’s failure to pay outstanding monies for several months.
It’s understood that the two parties have now reached an agreement on the debt, allowing Domingo to become a free agent yet again.
Reports that City have been looking for an attacking midfielder have been doing the rounds for some time now as coach Eric Tinkler hopes to beef up a squad that finished the 2023/24 season in fifth place.
The Citizens are also the only team to beat Sundowns in the league during the campaign that wrapped up on Saturday afternoon – and Domingo is likely to be City’s first signing ahead of the transfer window opening in July.
Domingo joined Downs in September 2020 from the now defunct Bidvest Wits and went on to win three league titles with the Tshwane giants prior to signing for Raja.
